International Students Visit the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum and Jindaiji Temple on a Field Study Trip!
On February 13, fifteen international students and one Japanese student from Gunma University participated in a one-day field study program in Tokyo, entitled “Gunma University International Students Field Study”. The group visited the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum and Jindaiji Temple.
At the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, the students observed historic buildings that recreate downtown neighborhoods from the Edo period to the early Showa period. Through these exhibits, they learned about the historical changes in Japanese daily life and culture.
In the afternoon, the group visited Jindaiji Temple, where they viewed the Shaka Nyorai statue, a National Treasure said to be the oldest Buddha statue in eastern Japan. In addition to enjoying the calm and serene atmosphere of the temple grounds, they also had the opportunity to enjoy “Jindaiji Soba”, a local specialty.
Blessed with clear skies and relatively mild temperatures, the participants not only deepened their understanding of Japanese culture but also enjoyed photography and local food, spending the day with smiles on their faces.
This field study provided a valuable opportunity to further strengthen exchanges among international students and to deepen their understanding of and interest in Japanese culture. Gunma University will continue to actively organize programs that promote international exchange and a better understanding of local communities in Japan.
