Gunma University 2026 Summer Session held

Gunma University Global Initiative Center hosted the “Gunma University 2026 Summer Session” from July 6th to 10th, 2026. The program welcomed 19 students from Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Thailand, offering them unique opportunities to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and experience campus life at our university.

The program began with an exchange session with students from the Affiliated Junior High School, Cooperative Faculty of Education. On the second day, participants engaged in lively discussions with our GFL(Global Frontier Leader)students through collaborative activities, English-language PBL (Project-Based Learning) sessions, and I-GFL (Interdisciplinary Program for Global Frontier Leaders) classes. The third day featured a traditional Koto performance and an insightful lecture on the future of AI and humanity. On the fourth day, the group visited Kiryu City to observe sericulture in a thatched-roof farmhouse at the Gunma Insect World. They also learned about the history of textiles and experienced traditional indigo dyeing at the Kiryu Textile Museum “Yukari.” In the afternoon, at the Kiryu Campus, the participants received an overview of the campus from the students of the Graduate School of Science and Technology and attended presentations on their research. This experience deepened their understanding of the region’s traditional industries and provided great inspiration through the research activities of their Japanese peers. On the final day, the participants enjoyed a Daruma doll painting session and sightseeing in Ikaho Hot Springs, successfully concluding the program with a closing ceremony.

This program placed a strong emphasis on cross-cultural understanding and the student exchange. Through interaction among students from diverse backgrounds, the participants had a valuable opportunity to further deepen their understanding of Japan and Gunma University. It was also a meaningful experience for our own students to engage with peers from around the world.
