Short-Term International Student Program “Gunma University 2026 Spring Session” Held
The Gunma University Global Initiative Center hosted a short-term international student reception program from March 16 to 19, 2026, under the theme “Discover the Treasures of Gunma University – Explore, Learn, Enjoy!” targeting students from partner universities abroad.
19 students from partner institutions in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States participated in the program. They toured Gunma University’s Shōwa, Kiryu, and Aramaki campuses, visited cutting-edge facilities such as heavy-ion Medical centers and research laboratories, and engaged with students in various specialized fields, gaining exposure to the forefront of research
In addition to academic activities, the program offered lectures on Japanese culture, including haiku and Jōmō karuta, and Japanese-style drawing. Participants also experienced traditional crafts such as indigo dyeing and daruma painting. The group even visited Gunma University Junior High School, where they enjoyed interactions with junior high students. On the final day, they visited Ikaho Onsen and the “Michi-no- Eki Maebashi Akagi,” further broadening their understanding of not only our university but Gunma Prefecture and Japan as a whole. The participating students gave the program extremely high evaluations.
Additionally, we are planning a summer session in July 2026. We hope that everyone from partner universities who are interested will definitely participate.
