Gunma University School of Medicine has been elaborated over 50 years in
education and research, and promoted leading activities in clinical sciences
since its foundation in 1943. The School has produced nearly 4,500 graduates
who are now actively working as specified clinicians, general practitioners,
and research workers engaging in medical and life sciences. Around 150 graduates
have secured teaching posts as professors leading research activities in
various medical schools and institutes throughout Japan. In 1996, the School of Health Sciences was founded and its master course began in 2001. Thus, at present, the School of Medicine and the School of Health Sciences comprise the Faculty of Medicine. The Gunma University Hospital functions as an affiliated teaching hospital of the School of Medicine. Several affiliated Institutes add unique research activities: Behavior Research Institute, Laboratory of Drug Resistance in Bacteria, and the Institute of Experimental Animal Research. Gene Research Center and the Laboratory of Isotope Experiment provide outstanding facilities to on-campus researchers. The Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation shares a partnership with the Faculty of Medicine, both of which are working at the frontier of bio-medical sciences. The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Science is awarded to students who fulfill 4 years of graduate course work and have published their research results in peer-reviewed journals. University graduates from medical schools and those who are awarded master's degrees are eligible to the Doctor's program. Eminent research capability with sound ethical discipline, service for social welfare make the major principle in the training program of the Faculty of Medicine. |
